Credential isolation keeps secrets such as API keys, SSH keys, and cloud tokens out of reach of the commands an AI agent runs, so a buggy or prompt-injected command cannot read or leak them.
Credential isolation keeps secrets such as API keys, SSH keys, and cloud tokens out of reach of the commands an AI agent runs, so a buggy or prompt-injected command cannot read or leak them. Claude Code's sandbox does this with a credentials setting that blocks reads of files like ~/.ssh and ~/.aws/credentials and strips variables like GITHUB_TOKEN from sandboxed commands. Its mask mode goes further: the command only sees a placeholder, and the sandbox proxy swaps in the real value on requests to hosts you allow. There is no built-in deny list, so only the files and variables you list are protected.
