Training
A fine-tuning method that trains LoRA adapters on top of a frozen base model whose weights are quantized to 4 bits.
A fine-tuning method that trains LoRA adapters on top of a frozen base model whose weights are quantized to 4 bits. This cuts memory enough to fine-tune a 65B-parameter model on a single 48GB GPU. Dettmers et al. introduced it in 2023 along with a 4-bit NormalFloat (NF4) data type, double quantization of the quantization constants, and paged optimizers that absorb memory spikes. The paper reports quality that matches full 16-bit fine-tuning.
