Prompting
Readable digests of a reasoning model's internal chain of thought, returned in place of the raw reasoning.
Readable digests of a reasoning model's internal chain of thought, returned in place of the raw reasoning. OpenAI returns them when you set the reasoning summary parameter (auto picks the most detailed summarizer a model supports), and Claude returns them with display set to summarized. You are still billed for the full thinking tokens, not the shorter summary. Newer Claude models default to omitted, which returns an empty thinking field unless you ask for the summary.
