Reinforcement Learning from AI Feedback: a variant of RLHF where an off-the-shelf LLM, not human annotators, labels which of two responses is better.
Reinforcement Learning from AI Feedback: a variant of RLHF where an off-the-shelf LLM, not human annotators, labels which of two responses is better. A reward model is trained on those AI preferences and the policy is optimized against it. The idea comes from Anthropic's Constitutional AI work. In a 2023 head-to-head study, RLAIF matched RLHF on summarization and on helpful and harmless dialogue, trading expensive human labeling for cheaper AI judgment that can carry the labeler model's biases.
