Claude Code error

Claude Code: Error: Raw mode is not supported on the current process.stdin, which...

Error message
Error: Raw mode is not supported on the current process.stdin, which Ink uses as input stream by default.

Status: Fixed in releaseLast verified 2 documented fixes3 sources

What it means

Claude Code tried to read interactive terminal input but stdin is a pipe or redirect rather than a terminal.

Causes

  • Piping input into interactive claude (for example cat file | claude)
  • During curl -fsSL https://claude.ai/install.sh | bash, versions before 2.1.246 trying to show a server-managed settings security approval dialog for some Team/Enterprise users

How to fix it

  1. Fix 1.

Use -p (print mode) for piped input; v2.1.287 on Windows now explains why and exits instead of hanging.

    Snippet
cat file | claude -p "your prompt"
  2. Fix 2.

If it happens during install, rerun the installer; the script runs the latest release's install command, and v2.1.246+ no longer shows the dialog during claude install or claude update.

    Terminal
    curl -fsSL https://claude.ai/install.sh | bash
