The EU AI Act is Regulation (EU) 2024/1689, the European Union's law setting common rules for artificial intelligence, adopted on 13 June 2024. It sorts AI by risk: some practices are banned outright, high-risk systems carry conformity and documentation duties, some systems must meet transparency rules such as labelling AI-generated content, and general-purpose AI models have their own chapter of obligations. As adopted, the bans applied from 2 February 2025, the general-purpose model rules from 2 August 2025, most other provisions from 2 August 2026, and some high-risk rules from 2 August 2027.
