Anthropic Suspends Fable 5 & Mythos 5 After US Export Control Directive (Jailbreak Concerns) Anthropic announced that the US government issued export control directives requiring it to suspend Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for everyone because API keys can’t be nationality-checked, while other models like Opus 4.8, Sonnet, and Haiku are unaffected. Anthropic said the letter did not provide specific national security details but is understood to involve a method for bypassing or jailbreaking Fable 5; the company claims demonstrations show only minor, previously known vulnerabilities that other public models can find without a bypass. Anthropic reiterated its safety posture, red-teaming with the US government and third parties, and noted no universal jailbreak has been found and none of the disclosed jailbreaks led to harmful results. Current Mythos routing goes to Opus 4.8 and in-progress Mythos chats will error out, and a WSJ report says Amazon researchers prompted the model to reveal some security vulnerabilities.
