Developer platforms - official Apple server

Xcode MCP server

Xcode provides a local MCP server, reached through the xcrun mcpbridge command, that lets external agents launched outside Xcode access an open Xcode project and Xcode capabilities such as building the app. Apple describes agents using it to search documentation, explore file structures, update project settings and capture Xcode Previews. It runs locally; the notes below cover how it authenticates.

Install

Terminal
claude mcp add --transport stdio xcode -- xcrun mcpbridge
Terminal
codex mcp add xcode -- xcrun mcpbridge

Notes and caveats

  • Bundled with Xcode 26.3 and later (macOS only), not distributed as a separate package; no npm/pypi identifier and no public repo.
  • No API key: the user must turn on 'Allow external agents to use Xcode tools' under Xcode > Settings > Intelligence > Model Context Protocol, and Xcode alerts when an external agent connects.
  • The project must be open in Xcode before prompting the agent.
  • Apple's docs do not publish a tool list.
