search_workflows
Search for workflows with optional filters. Returns a preview of each workflow.
get_workflow_details
Get detailed information about a specific workflow, including trigger details.
execute_workflow
Execute a workflow by ID. Returns the execution ID immediately without waiting for completion.
test_workflow
Test a workflow using pin data to bypass external services.
publish_workflow
Publish (activate) a workflow to make it available for production execution.
get_workflow_execution
Get execution details by execution ID and workflow ID.
search_workflow_executions
Search for workflow executions with optional filters, returning status, timing and workflow ID.
list_credentials
List credentials the current user can access; never returns credential secret data.
search_nodes

Notes and caveats

  • An instance owner or admin turns it on under Settings > Instance-level MCP, and each workflow must then be enabled for MCP. search_workflows is the exception: it returns previews of every workflow the user can view.
  • The URL depends on the instance, for example your-instance.app.n8n.cloud.
  • Self-hosted instances must be publicly reachable for cloud clients, and N8N_DISABLED_MODULES=mcp removes the feature.
  • Workflow building tools need n8n 2.12+ or 2.13+, the per-client Connect dialog needs 2.33.0+, and agent tools need 2.34.0+ (agents are in Preview).
  • OAuth is recommended; an API key (Bearer token) is the alternative.
  • The Claude Code and Codex snippets use OAuth; the generic snippet is the documented API-key claude.json entry.
  • This is separate from the per-workflow MCP Server Trigger node.
