Hosted MCP server that lets AI clients search the Atlan catalog, traverse lineage, read and update governed metadata, glossaries and data quality rules, and run read-only SQL against connected warehouses. Calls run with the signed-in user's Atlan permissions. Atlan hosts it at https://mcp.atlan.com/mcp, or you can run atlan-mcp-server (pypi) locally with OAuth or API key auth.

Notes and caveats

  • Hosted server is enabled for all Atlan tenants (requires an Atlan account).
  • The docs list 39 tools in nine categories; some are gated per tenant and the knowledge tools are in early preview.
  • Write tools propose changes and wait for approval.
  • The local server (pip atlan-mcp-server / ghcr.io/atlanhq/atlan-mcp-server, last PyPI release 0.3.3 on 2026-02-17) is deprecated and maintenance-only; Atlan recommends the hosted endpoint.
  • Claude Code plugin install is also documented: claude plugin install atlan@claude-plugins-official.
