Genie One MCP server

A Databricks-provided MCP (system.ai.genie_one_mcp) governed through Unity Gateway that sends natural-language data questions to Genie One, which writes SQL and returns answers grounded in Genie Ontology with links back to Databricks sources. Unity Catalog permissions are enforced on every request. It is served from your own instance at https://<workspace-hostname>/ai-gateway/mcp-services/system.ai.genie_one_mcp with OAuth or API key auth.

Notes and caveats

  • Install snippets are Databricks' generic Unity Gateway MCP snippets: replace <catalog>.<schema>.<service> with system.ai.genie_one_mcp.
  • The Claude Code snippet uses the built-in claude-code OAuth client.
  • Codex and Cursor snippets need an account admin to create an OAuth app with the ai-gateway scope; the Codex flow then needs codex mcp login databricks-tools --scopes ai-gateway,offline_access.
  • Databricks also documents a Unity Gateway CLI path (ug mcp add --agents claude|codex|cursor) and personal access token configs for local testing.
  • The previous beta endpoint https://<workspace-hostname>/api/2.0/mcp/genie is deprecated and sunsets 2026-10-31.
  • Uses Genie One pricing.
