Developer platforms - official Expo server

Expo MCP server

Hosted MCP server from Expo that gives AI tools Expo documentation, dependency installs, EAS build and workflow management, TestFlight, App Store and Google Play data. Optional local capabilities (screenshots, taps, DevTools, logs) are added through the expo-mcp dev dependency and a local Expo dev server. Expo hosts it at https://mcp.expo.dev/mcp, or you can run expo-mcp (npm) locally with OAuth auth.

Notes and caveats

  • Requires an Expo account and a project on the latest Expo SDK. search_documentation requires an EAS paid plan.
  • Local capabilities need SDK 54 or later, the expo-mcp dev dependency (npx expo install expo-mcp --dev) and starting the dev server with EXPO_UNSTABLE_MCP_SERVER=1 npx expo start; the client must reconnect whenever the dev server starts or stops. iOS local capabilities are simulator-only and macOS-only; one dev server connection at a time.
  • VS Code setup is documented as UI steps only (MCP: Add Server > HTTP > https://mcp.expo.dev/mcp, name expo).
  • The expo/expo-mcp repo (MIT) holds the local capabilities provider (npm expo-mcp, latest 0.2.4); the hosted server itself is not open source, and the repo has no GitHub releases.
  • Also available as a Claude connector and registered automatically by the expo plugin for Claude Code and Codex.
