Notes and caveats

  • Works on every Notion plan; OAuth by default.
  • MCP tokens (bearer, no browser sign-in) are Business and Enterprise only and created by workspace owners; enterprise-managed authorization needs Enterprise with SAML SSO.
  • AI search in notion-search and unlimited SQL queries need Business or Enterprise with Notion AI.
  • Guests cannot connect.
  • SSE fallback at https://mcp.notion.com/sse.
  • Codex snippet goes in ~/.codex/config.toml followed by codex mcp login notion.
  • The older open-source local server (github.com/makenotion/notion-mcp-server) is described by Notion as no longer actively maintained and deprecated; the hosted server is recommended.
