Developer platforms - official ServiceNow server

MCP server Console

MCP Server Console is ServiceNow's native MCP server capability. Administrators use it to create MCP servers on their own ServiceNow instance and expose curated tools, such as Now Assist skills, Knowledge Graph, subflows and actions, and Scripted REST APIs, to external MCP clients under OAuth 2.0. A preconfigured Quickstart Server ships with incident and case lookup and summarization tools, depending on which Now Assist apps are installed. It is served from your own instance at https://<server-instance>.service-now.com/sncapps/mcp-server/mcp/<server-name> with OAuth auth.

Notes and caveats

  • This is not one shared hosted endpoint.
  • Each customer creates servers on their own instance, so the URL is per-instance (the generic entry is the vendor-documented Quickstart Server URL).
  • Tools are configured by an admin.
  • Supported tool types are Now Assist skills, Knowledge Graph, subflows, actions and Scripted REST APIs.
  • The Quickstart Server's tools depend on the installed Now Assist apps: lookup_incident_records and incident_summarization with Now Assist for ITSM, plus lookup_case_records and case_summarization when HRSD or CSM is also installed.
  • It supports Streamable HTTP, with optional SSE for streaming responses; stdio is not supported.
  • Auth is OAuth 2.0 through an OAuth inbound integration created on the instance for each client.
  • Client ID Metadata Document (CIMD) clients are also supported, and third-party identity providers (Okta, Microsoft Entra, Ping or any OIDC provider) can be used on recent patches.
  • Connecting requires the sn_mcp_server.viewer role, and the app is listed in the ServiceNow Store as Model Context Protocol Server.
  • Feature access depends on your license tier (Foundation, Advanced or Prime).
  • Tool-call payloads are capped at 26 KB per request and 64 KB per response, and the rate limit is not configurable.
  • Data may be transferred to a centralized ServiceNow environment, possibly through a third-party cloud provider such as Microsoft Azure.
  • It went GA in December 2025 as v1.2, and v1.4 (Knowledge Graph, subflows, actions and Scripted REST APIs as tools) shipped in May 2026.
  • ServiceNow documents no client-specific install snippets.
