AI and ML platforms - official Wolfram server

Wolfram Local MCP server

Local MCP server from the Wolfram/AgentTools paclet that connects AI coding tools and chat clients to an installed Wolfram Engine, Mathematica or Wolfram|One for code evaluation, documentation search, notebook read/write, tests and code inspection. It runs locally from Wolfram/AgentTools (wolfram-paclet); the notes below cover how it authenticates.

Tools

WolframLanguageContext
Semantic search across Wolfram resources (documentation, Wolfram|Alpha, repositories and more).
WolframLanguageEvaluator
Execute Wolfram Language code.
WolframAlpha
Natural language queries to Wolfram|Alpha.
ReadNotebook
Read Wolfram Notebooks (.nb) as Markdown.
WriteNotebook
Convert Markdown to Wolfram Notebooks.
SymbolDefinition
Look up symbol definitions in readable format.
CodeInspector
Inspect code for issues and return a formatted report.
TestReport
Run Wolfram Language test files (.wlt).

As documented on October 17, 2026. A running server reports its current list through tools/list.

Notes and caveats

  • Requires Wolfram|One, Mathematica or a licensed Wolfram Engine; the paclet is built into Version 15 (earlier versions need a separate subscription for full WolframContext functionality).
  • Install snippets are Wolfram Language commands run in a Wolfram session, which write the client config.
  • Two predefined servers: Wolfram (default, for chat clients) and WolframLanguage (for coding tools).
  • WolframLanguageEvaluator and TestReport execute arbitrary code; Wolfram advises requiring approval.
  • A Docker image is offered for running without a local Wolfram Engine.
  • Paclet version 2.2.19 at check time; no release date published.

FAQ

What does the Wolfram Local MCP server do?

The vendor documents 8 tools, including WolframLanguageContext, WolframLanguageEvaluator, WolframAlpha and ReadNotebook.

How do I add the Wolfram Local MCP server to Claude Code?

Wolfram documents a Claude Code config; copy it from the Claude Code section of this page. Snippets for Codex, Cursor, VS Code and Generic are there too.

Does the Wolfram Local MCP server need authentication?

It uses a scheme other than OAuth or an API key, such as the session of the app or instance it runs in; the notes on this page describe it. Transport: stdio. Status: Unlabelled, last checked October 17, 2026.
