Gets the design context for a layer or selection in Figma; React and Tailwind output by default.
get_metadata
Gets a lightweight XML outline of a selection with layer IDs, names, types, positions and sizes.
get_screenshot
Takes a screenshot of your selection so your agent can see the design.
get_variable_defs
Gets the variables and styles used in your selection, such as colors, spacing, and typography.
get_figjam
Converts FigJam diagrams to XML.
download_assets
Downloads exports and original source images for up to 20 nodes per call (remote only).
use_figma
The general-purpose tool for writing to Figma files: create, edit, delete, or inspect content.
generate_figma_design
Sends the live UI of your web apps and sites to Figma as design layers.
create_new_file
Creates a blank Figma Design, FigJam, or Figma Slides file in your drafts.

Notes and caveats

  • Only clients listed in the Figma MCP catalog can connect; other clients must join a waitlist.
  • Figma recommends installing its client plugin (for Claude Code: claude plugin install figma@claude-plugins-official) which bundles the server and skills.
  • Sign-in with a Figma account (OAuth).
  • Read tools are rate limited: View and Collab seats get up to 20 tool calls per month on every plan (Starter offers only this); Full or Dev seats get up to 200 per day and 10 per minute on Professional and Education, up to 200 per day and 15 per minute on Organization, and up to 600 per day and 20 per minute on Enterprise.
  • Some tools are exempt from rate limits, including add_code_connect_map, create_new_file, generate_figma_design and whoami.
  • Write to canvas is in beta, free during the beta and planned to become usage-based paid, and needs a Full seat to write outside drafts.
  • Figma Specs features are open beta.
  • Enterprise-managed authorization is supported for Claude through Okta Cross App Access.
  • Not available on Figma for Government.
  • The GitHub repo is a guide plus plugin/skills, not server source; no LICENSE file was found in it.
