Cloud and hosting - official RunPod server

Runpod API MCP server

Official MCP server that wraps the Runpod REST API so AI tools can create and manage Pods, Serverless endpoints, templates, network volumes, container registries and billing through natural language. Available as a hosted server or a local npm package. RunPod hosts it at https://mcp.getrunpod.io/, or you can run @runpod/mcp-server (npm) locally with OAuth or API key auth.

As documented on October 17, 2026. A running server reports its current list through tools/list.

Notes and caveats

  • Hosted server is the recommended path and uses a Sign in with Runpod OAuth flow that mints a session-scoped API key; an API key can be sent as a Bearer header instead.
  • Local server needs Node.js 20+ and RUNPOD_API_KEY.
  • Guided installer: npx @runpod/mcp-server@latest add.
  • The Cursor snippet is the local (API key) config; VS Code setup is documented as Command Palette steps, not a snippet.
  • Hosted server records anonymous per-tool-call analytics (opt out with header X-Runpod-Analytics: off).
  • Its firewall can temporarily block IPs that send bursts of unauthenticated requests (seen most with Codex sign-in); using an API key header avoids it. v4 is REST v2 only; several tool names changed from 3.x.
  • Tool list is partial: tools are generated from the v2 OpenAPI spec and the docs do not list them all.
  • Claude Code users can also get it via the runpod/runpod-plugins-official plugin.
