Notes and caveats
- Announced as released on 2026-02-17 (no beta label); new tools added 2026-05-13.
- Streamable HTTP only; no SSE and no Dynamic Client Registration.
- Clients must be backed by a registered Slack app (Marketplace-published or internal; unlisted apps are prohibited) using confidential OAuth with user tokens, PKCE supported, and workspace admins must approve the MCP integration.
- App IP allowlists apply.
- Slack recommends the Slack MCP and Skills Plugin for Claude Code (/plugin install slack@claude-plugins-official) and Cursor (/add-plugin slack).
- Slack's plugin page says the MCP connection is not yet available in Codex, while its harness guide documents the codex mcp add command above.
- Tool names are the documented capability names from the rate-limit table, not wire names (file upload uses slack_get_file_upload_url and slack_complete_file_upload); more tools exist for user channels, channel members, user profiles, lists and file uploads.
- The server is hosted and closed source; the plugin lives at github.com/slackapi/slack-skills-plugin.
