Inngest
Durable workflows and background jobs for serverless. Step-level retries, scheduling, and event-driven functions.
Inngest is the queue and workflow engine that most serverless apps reach for in 2026. You write functions in your normal codebase, attach them to events or crons, and Inngest handles the durability: step-level retries, idempotent replays, observability, and automatic scaling. It integrates cleanly with Next.js App Router route handlers and ships with a local dev server that mirrors the production behavior. Compared to raw BullMQ or Temporal, Inngest wins on ergonomics for small-to-medium teams that do not want to run Redis or manage worker processes. The free tier handles meaningful production traffic before you need to pay.
