Observability - official Arize server

Phoenix Remote MCP server

MCP server built into Arize Phoenix at the /mcp path of any Phoenix instance, letting agents read and act on traces, spans, datasets, experiments and prompts through Phoenix's REST API, plus read-only SQL and GraphQL queries. By default it exposes code-mode tools that search the operation catalog and run sandboxed Python that chains operations. It runs locally from arize-phoenix (pypi) with OAuth or API key auth.

Notes and caveats

  • Remote URL is your own Phoenix endpoint plus /mcp (http://localhost:6006/mcp locally); requires Phoenix 19.0.0 or later.
  • Auth is browser OAuth via Phoenix's built-in authorization server, with Phoenix API keys as a bearer-token fallback; omit auth if your Phoenix has none.
  • Claude Desktop needs a publicly reachable Phoenix.
  • PHOENIX_ENABLE_MCP_SERVER=false removes /mcp and PHOENIX_ENABLE_MCP_CODE_MODE=false exposes each operation as its own tool instead of code mode.
  • Arize also hosts a separate no-login Phoenix Docs MCP at https://arizeai-433a7140.mintlify.app/mcp.
