Cloud and hosting - official Daytona server

Daytona MCP server

Local MCP server bundled with the Daytona CLI that lets AI agents create and manage Daytona sandboxes, work with sandbox file systems and Git, run processes and code, use computer use, and open previews. It runs locally from daytonaio/cli/daytona (homebrew); the notes below cover how it authenticates.

Notes and caveats

  • Runs via the Daytona CLI (daytona mcp start) after daytona login; daytona mcp config prints the generic JSON.
  • Docs also show daytona mcp init claude and daytona mcp init windsurf (docs say "Claude" without specifying Desktop or Code, so no Claude Code snippet is recorded).
  • Docs list tool categories only (sandbox management, file system, Git, process and code execution, computer use, preview), not tool names.
  • Windows CLI install: powershell -Command "irm https://get.daytona.io/windows | iex".
  • The old daytonaio/daytona repo is no longer maintained (core moved private in June 2026); CLI/MCP source now lives in daytona/clients under cli/ (AGPL-3.0, rest of repo Apache-2.0).
  • No status label found on vendor pages.
  • Latest daytona/clients GitHub release v0.225.0 on 2026-10-16.
