Notes and caveats

  • Bundled and enabled through the MCP Server plugin; turn it on in Settings | Tools | MCP Server.
  • Clients such as Junie, VS Code, Claude Code, Codex, Air and GitHub Copilot CLI are configured with an Auto-Configure button; others use Copy SSE Config, Copy Stdio Config or Copy HTTP Stream Config, so JetBrains publishes no static snippet.
  • Runs locally against the running IDE.
  • An optional brave mode runs shell commands and run configurations without confirmation.
  • Database tools need the Database Tools and SQL plugin, and list_recent_sql_queries is not in free plans.
  • The docs page lists many more tools than shown here.
  • The earlier npm proxy @jetbrains/mcp-proxy (repo JetBrains/mcp-jetbrains, Apache-2.0) is deprecated and replaced by this built-in server.
