MongoDB Atlas Managed MCP server

MCP server hosted and operated by MongoDB in Atlas that gives AI clients access to Atlas deployments without running local infrastructure. Interactive clients authorize through OAuth with Atlas App Connections; programmatic agents use service account client credentials from an Atlas MCP configuration. MongoDB hosts it at https://mcp.mongodb.com, or you can run mongodb-atlas-mcp-remote (npm) locally with OAuth auth.

Notes and caveats

  • Atlas (cloud) deployments only, with up to project-level dataplane access.
  • Recommended setup is the mongodb-atlas plugin for Claude, Cursor, VS Code (@agentPlugins), Codex, GitHub Copilot CLI and Grok; an organization owner must first enable the AI Clients setting.
  • Static API keys cannot authenticate over HTTP: use an OAuth-capable client or the mongodb-atlas-mcp-remote stdio wrapper (npm 1.0.0, 2026-08-10) with MDB_MCP_API_CLIENT_ID and MDB_MCP_API_CLIENT_SECRET from an Atlas MCP configuration, which an Organization Owner or Project Owner creates (Atlas CLI 1.58.0 or later for the CLI path).
  • Admin controls include per-configuration roles, IP access lists and read-only (on by default).
  • The Codex and Cursor snippets come from the wrapper package README.
  • The docs do not list a separate tool set for the managed server.
  • No lifecycle label in current docs, so status is left unknown.
