Databases - official Redis server

Redis MCP server

Self-hosted MCP server that lets an agent read, write and query data in your own Redis instance (strings, hashes, lists, sets, sorted sets, streams, JSON, pub/sub, vector indexes) and retrieve basic server information. Connects to Redis Open Source, Redis Cloud or Azure Managed Redis. It runs locally from redis-mcp-server (pypi); the notes below cover how it authenticates.

Notes and caveats

  • The docs list tool groups (string, hash, list, set, sorted set, pub/sub, streams, JSON, docs search, query engine, server management) rather than individual tool names, so tools is left empty.
  • Auth is the Redis connection itself (URL, username/password, TLS) or EntraID for Azure Managed Redis. stdio only; the README says streamable-http support will come later.
  • The generic snippet is the README's PyPI example, copied as written, including the escaped quotes around the URL.
  • The README requires Python 3.14+.
  • Redis lists it under 'Production-ready releases' on its AI Incubator page.
  • The Upstash redis-mcp entry in the registry hints is published by Upstash, not Redis, so it is not included here.
  • Redis also lists an experimental redisctl MCP server on its AI Incubator page; it was not checked.
