Notes and caveats

  • Shopify now recommends installing the Shopify AI Toolkit plugin (skills-based) and offers the Dev MCP server as the MCP alternative.
  • Requires Node.js 18+.
  • The npm package (v1.17.0, ISC per its README) has no repository field, and its source is not in a public repo.
  • The related public repo github.com/Shopify/Shopify-AI-Toolkit (MIT) is mirrored from an internal repo and holds the plugin, skills and hooks, not the server package.
  • Published builds send usage telemetry (including tool inputs and results) to shopify.dev; opt out with ~/.config/shopify-ai-toolkit/opt-out, OPT_OUT_INSTRUMENTATION=true or DO_NOT_TRACK=1.
  • The tool list is partial: only tools named in the package README are listed.
  • No beta or preview label on the vendor page.
