Notes and caveats

  • Self-hosted: the server runs inside your own Strapi instance at /mcp, so there is no vendor-hosted URL; localhost:1337 in the snippets is the docs example.
  • Disabled by default; enable with mcp.enabled: true in config/server and restart.
  • Requires Strapi 5.47.0+ (GA in 5.49.0 per Strapi blog, 2026-09-03); Media Library tools need 5.54.0+.
  • Listed as a free feature.
  • Auth is a Strapi Admin token sent as a Bearer header.
  • Content tool names are generated per content type.
  • Stateless, POST only.
  • Cannot upload new media files.
  • MCP audit logging is Enterprise-only (5.52.0+).
  • Plugins can add tools through the strapi.ai.mcp service.
