Use Gemini in Cursor
Cursor supports bringing your own Google API key for Gemini chat models through Cursor Settings > Models.
Last verified 4 steps2 official sources
Steps
- Step 1.
Open Cursor Settings > Models.
- Step 2.
Find the provider you want (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Azure, or AWS Bedrock). Choose Google.
- Step 3.
Paste your API key into the text field.
- Step 4.
Click Save. Cursor now uses your key for that provider's models. They appear in the model picker.
Caveats
- Cursor: "Google: Gemini models available through the Google AI API." Which Gemini ids appear in the picker is controlled by Cursor; the ids above come from Google's models page and were not checked in the picker.
- "Custom API keys only work with chat models. Tab completion continues using Cursor's built-in models."
- On Teams and Enterprise plans the Cursor Token Rate of $0.25 per million tokens still applies to own-key requests. Cursor's Zero Data Retention policy does not apply when you use your own API keys.
- Cursor: "all requests are routed through Cursor's servers for final prompt building."
