Steps

  1. Step 1.

Get an API key from Google AI Studio (https://aistudio.google.com/).

  2. Step 2.

Add a model to config.yaml (Continue's documented template; set model to a current Gemini id such as gemini-3.8-flash).

    YAML
    name: My Config
    version: 0.0.1
    schema: v1

    models:
      - name: <MODEL_NAME>
        provider: gemini
        model: <MODEL_ID>
        apiKey: <YOUR_GEMINI_API_KEY>

Caveats

  • Continue's page uses <MODEL_ID> placeholders. The ids listed come from Google's models page.
  • The JSON config.json form is marked Deprecated in Continue's docs.
