Continue has a native mistral provider in config.yaml for chat models. Its autocomplete guide recommends Codestral (codestral-latest) with the autocomplete role. A Codestral-specific key needs apiBase https://codestral.mistral.ai/v1; otherwise Continue defaults to https://api.mistral.ai/v1.

Steps
- Step 1.
Get an API key from the Mistral Dashboard (console.mistral.ai) and add a Mistral model to config.yaml.

For autocomplete, add Codestral with the autocomplete role (from Continue's autocomplete guide):

If you use a Codestral API key, set apiBase to https://codestral.mistral.ai/v1. Otherwise Continue defaults to https://api.mistral.ai/v1. To use a general Mistral key for autocomplete, set "apiBase": "https://api.mistral.ai/v1".
Caveats
- Continue's provider page uses <MODEL_ID> placeholders. The chat model ids here come from Mistral's Models Overview.
- Continue's docs say Codestral keys (codestral.mistral.ai) differ from api.mistral.ai keys. Mistral's current docs index no longer documents a separate Codestral endpoint, and Kilo's docs say a standard Studio key works. Prefer a standard key with apiBase https://api.mistral.ai/v1.
- config.json is marked deprecated in Continue's docs. Use config.yaml.
- Devstral 2 (devstral-2512) was retired 2026-07-31 and replaced by mistral-medium-3-5.
