Continue.dev
Open-source AI code assistant for VS Code and JetBrains. Bring your own model - local or API. Tab autocomplete, chat, inline edit. Fully customizable.
Continue is the leading open-source AI code assistant, supporting both VS Code and JetBrains IDEs. It gives you Copilot-style tab autocomplete, inline editing, and chat powered by whatever model you choose. You can connect it to Claude, GPT, Gemini, or run completely local with Ollama or LM Studio for zero-cost, private coding assistance. The configuration is a single JSON file where you define providers, models, context sources, and custom slash commands. Continue also supports retrieval-augmented generation over your codebase using local embeddings. For teams that need full control over their AI tooling or have strict data privacy requirements, it is the strongest option available.
