Zed
High-performance code editor built in Rust with native AI integration. Sub-millisecond input latency. Built-in assistant supports Claude, GPT, and local models.
Zed is a code editor built from scratch in Rust by the creators of Atom and Tree-sitter. It is absurdly fast, with sub-millisecond input latency and GPU-accelerated rendering that makes VS Code feel sluggish in comparison. The built-in AI assistant supports Claude, GPT, Gemini, and local models through Ollama, with inline editing and multi-file context. Real-time collaboration is native to the editor, not bolted on as an extension. Zed also includes a built-in terminal, language server support, and Tree-sitter syntax highlighting. For developers who care about raw editor performance and want AI features without the overhead of Electron, Zed is the most compelling option right now.
