Databases - official Couchbase server
Couchbase MCP server
Self-hosted MCP server that connects AI agents to Couchbase clusters on Capella or self-managed, with tools for cluster health, schema discovery, key-value operations, SQL++ queries, indexing, full-text and vector search, and query performance analysis. It runs locally from couchbase-mcp-server (pypi); the notes below cover how it authenticates.

As documented on October 17, 2026. A running server reports its current list through tools/list.
Notes and caveats
- Read-only mode is on by default (set CB_MCP_READ_ONLY_MODE=false to enable writes); individual tools can be disabled or require confirmation.
- Cluster auth is Couchbase username/password or mTLS client certificates; Streamable HTTP deployments can add OAuth 2.1 (JWT/JWKS, provider-agnostic).
- Several cluster/index tools are self-managed Couchbase Server 7.6+ only, not Capella.
- The same package also ships an Operational Insights server mode (
uvx couchbase-mcp-server operational-insights). - Enterprise support requires licensing Couchbase AI Data Plane.
- Docs reference Claude Desktop, Cursor (one-click link using the generic config), Windsurf, VS Code and JetBrains; no Claude Code or Codex snippet.
- Requires Python 3.10+ and uv.
- Latest PyPI release 1.0.1.post1 on 2026-08-25.
- Status recorded as ga based on v1.0 architecture docs and enterprise support offering, no preview label.
More MCP servers for databases
- AirtableStatus: GA
Airtable MCP server
Airtable's official hosted MCP server lets AI tools list and create bases, change table and field schema, read and write records, build interfaces, submit forms and draft automations, all within the user's existing permissions.
Transport: Streamable HTTPAuth: OAuth or API key - Chroma
Chroma MCP server
Self-hosted MCP server that lets agents create and manage Chroma collections and add, query, update and delete documents. It supports vector search, full-text search and metadata filtering against ephemeral, persistent, self-hosted HTTP or Chroma Cloud clients.
Transport: stdioAuth: Other - ClickHouseStatus: Beta
ClickHouse Cloud remote MCP server
A fully managed remote MCP endpoint for ClickHouse Cloud services that lets agents list databases and tables, run read-only SELECT queries, and inspect organizations, services, backups, ClickPipes and billing. All 13 tools are read-only.
Transport: Streamable HTTPAuth: OAuth or API key - ClickHouse
ClickHouse MCP server
Open-source MCP server from ClickHouse that lets AI assistants list databases and tables and run SQL against any ClickHouse instance, self-hosted or Cloud. It also has an optional chDB embedded engine. It runs locally over stdio by default, and can also serve Streamable HTTP.
Transport: stdio, Streamable HTTP, SSEAuth: Other - CockroachDBStatus: GA
CockroachDB Cloud MCP server
Managed MCP server built into CockroachDB Cloud that lets AI tools list clusters, explore live schemas and run SQL against clusters in a CockroachDB Cloud organization. Connections can cover every cluster the user or service account can access, or be scoped to one cluster with an mcp-cluster-id header.
Transport: Streamable HTTPAuth: OAuth or API key - Convex
Convex MCP server
Local MCP server built into the Convex CLI that lets agents inspect and act on a Convex deployment: list tables and schemas, page through data, run read-only one-off queries, call deployed functions, read logs and health insights, and manage environment variables.

FAQ
What does the Couchbase MCP server do?
Self-hosted MCP server that connects AI agents to Couchbase clusters on Capella or self-managed, with tools for cluster health, schema discovery, key-value operations, SQL++ queries, indexing, full-text and vector search, and query performance analysis. The vendor documents 15 tools, including get_server_configuration_status, test_cluster_connection, get_cluster_health_and_services and get_buckets_in_cluster.
How do I add the Couchbase MCP server to VS Code?
Couchbase documents a VS Code config; copy it from the VS Code section of this page. Snippets for Generic are there too.
Does the Couchbase MCP server need authentication?
It uses a scheme other than OAuth or an API key, such as the session of the app or instance it runs in; the notes on this page describe it. Transport: stdio, Streamable HTTP, SSE. Status: GA, last checked October 17, 2026.
