Returns the team name, current time, and environments with slugs and dataset counts.
get_environment
Returns details for one environment, including its datasets and calculated fields.
get_dataset_columns
Returns the full column schema for a dataset, with optional sample values.
run_query
Runs a time-series aggregation query against a Honeycomb dataset and returns computed results.
get_query_results
Retrieves results and metadata from a previously executed query run.
find_queries
Searches query history and saved queries by intent.
find_columns
Searches for columns and calculated fields by intent across datasets.
run_bubbleup
Runs a BubbleUp analysis to find what makes a selected subset differ from the baseline.
get_trace
Retrieves all spans for a trace ID and renders them as a waterfall.
get_service_map
Returns a snapshot of service-to-service call dependencies (Enterprise).
search_semconv
Searches the semantic convention registry for matching attributes.
create_board
Creates a Board with query, SLO and text panels (requires mcp:write).
create_trigger
Creates a Trigger that alerts when query results cross a threshold (requires mcp:write).
create_slo
Creates an SLO with an auto-created SLI derived column (requires mcp:write).
canvas_agent_invoke
Sends a message to the Canvas agent, creating a new investigation if none is given (requires mcp:write).

Notes and caveats

  • Your Honeycomb team must have Honeycomb Intelligence enabled.
  • EU teams use https://mcp.eu1.honeycomb.io/mcp.
  • OAuth is the recommended auth.
  • API-key auth uses a Management API Key with Model Context Protocol and Environments scopes, and only team owners can create one.
  • Write tools need the mcp:write scope.
  • An X-MCP-Toolset header (all, query, canvas) limits which tools load. get_service_map is Enterprise only.
  • Honeycomb documents the Claude Code plugin (claude plugin marketplace add honeycombio/agent-skill; claude plugin install honeycomb) as its primary Claude Code path.
  • The manual claude mcp add command shown here is its documented alternative.
  • VS Code and Cursor also get one-click deeplinks.
  • The earlier self-hosted honeycombio/honeycomb-mcp (MIT, stdio) is deprecated and was archived on 2026-04-22.
  • The hosted server has no public source repo.
  • The docs do not call the server beta or GA.
