Databases - official Neon server

Neon MCP server

Hosted MCP server that lets an agent manage Neon Postgres projects, branches, computes, snapshots, Auth, Data API, functions and storage, and run SQL, migrations and query tuning against Neon databases. Tools can be narrowed with URL parameters for read-only mode, a single project, tool categories or a pinned Postgres role. Neon hosts it at https://mcp.neon.tech/mcp with OAuth or API key auth.

Notes and caveats

  • Neon recommends it for development and testing only, not production databases.
  • Neon lists it as an official Claude connector.
  • The local stdio npm package @neondatabase/mcp-server-neon is deprecated; stdio-only clients are told to bridge with mcp-remote.
  • The HTTP+SSE endpoint (https://mcp.neon.tech/sse) is deprecated and stops working on or after October 1, 2026, and SSE does not support API keys.
  • The npx neon@latest init command sets up the MCP server, agent skills and a linked project for Cursor, VS Code and Claude Code; npx add-mcp https://mcp.neon.tech/mcp writes config for other agents.
  • Observability (log) tools work only for projects in supported AWS regions.
  • Projects with IP Allow must allowlist 34.192.103.46 and 23.22.233.166.
  • The server sends product analytics (Segment) and error reports (Sentry).
