Notes and caveats

  • The docs list 26 tools; 15 are shown here.
  • Auth is OAuth with scopes chosen at consent (no access, read-only or full, per org or database, and separate payment method access); service tokens are supported for CI and headless clients.
  • Org admins can limit MCP query access for all members.
  • An insights-only endpoint without the query tools is at https://mcp.pscale.dev/mcp/planetscale-insights-only.
  • Write safeguards block UPDATE or DELETE without WHERE and TRUNCATE, and DDL prompts for human confirmation.
  • Also available as a Claude Code plugin (/plugin marketplace add planetscale/claude-plugin) and in the Claude connectors directory; VS Code setup is a one-click link or the 'MCP: Add Server' command.
  • The GitHub repo holds only the hand-written tools; others are generated from the PlanetScale OpenAPI spec.
  • The local pscale mcp server in the CLI has been removed.
