Notes and caveats
- Connecting through the CLI requires Railway CLI 5.44.0 or later and a
railway loginsession; OAuth clients (Windsurf, Cline, Devin) connect directly to https://mcp.railway.com. - Project tokens are not accepted; a user identity is required.
- The CLI also ships a local in-process server (
railway mcp local,railway mcp install --local) with a larger, different tool set (services, domains, variables, volumes, logs, metrics) for egress-restricted networks. - The former standalone npm package @railway/mcp-server (repo railwayapp/railway-mcp-server) is deprecated: 'Railway MCP is now bundled into the Railway CLI.' Docs give no explicit beta/GA label.
- The OAuth per-editor snippets sit behind a docs tab selector that could not be extracted, so only CLI snippets are listed.
