Image generation API pricing: price per image by model and size
We read the image generation pricing pages and docs of 12 providers on October 18, 2026 and recorded 74 models with 211 price rows. 47 models are priced per image, 23 per 1M image tokens, 6 per megapixel and 10 in credits. Every price stays in the provider's own unit, next to the line it was copied from, and per-image prices are only ranked against the same size. 14 models are retiring or retired and sit in their own section.

Every price, by unit
One table per pricing unit, so a per-image price never sits next to a per-token or per-megapixel one. Prices are copied exactly as each provider states them. 60 current, preview, legacy or unlabelled models are below; retiring and retired models have their own table further down.

Why per-token and per-megapixel prices are not per-image prices
A per-image price is a flat charge for one output at a stated size and quality. A per-token price bills the tokens an image is turned into, and how many tokens one image uses depends on its size, its quality setting and the model, so the same token rate produces different costs per image. Input text and reference images are billed on top.
A per-megapixel price scales with the pixel count: a 2048x2048 image is about four megapixels and costs about four times a one-megapixel image at the same rate, and some providers also tie the rate to the number of steps. Credits are a provider's own currency, so a credit figure is not a dollar figure until you apply that provider's credit value.
Even a provider's own token counts can differ between pages. For Gemini Nano Banana 2.1 on the Gemini API, the pricing page says a 4K image consumes 3780 tokens; the image generation guide's Nano Banana 2.1 table lists 2520 tokens at 4K. That is why this page lists each unit in its own table and never converts one into another.

Comparing only rows with the same size label, the lowest exact per-image prices on October 18, 2026 are at 1K, P-Image Ideogram, Very Low at US $0.003 per image, at 1024x1024, OpenAI GPT Image 2, Low at $0.006 per image (1024x1024, low quality), at 2K, P-Image Ideogram, Very Low at US $0.006 per image and at 4K, Black Forest Labs FLUX 3 Image Klein at $0.036 per image (4K).
